Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department on patrol on Mamaroneck Road stopped White Plains resident Darwin Maldonado Jerez after he made a series of vehicle and traffic violations at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.
During the subsequent stop, officers reported that they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Jerez’s breath and said that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, prompting further investigation. Jerez advised police that he had been at a friend’s house in Mamaroneck and had previously consumed four beers before getting behind the wheel.
Jerez proceeded to fail several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and an alco-sensor displayed a reading of .18 percent, leading to his arrest. At Scarsdale Police Headquarters, a breathalyzer test determined that Jerez had a blood alcohol content of .17 percent, more than double the legal limit and he was charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent.
Following arraignment, Jerez was released on his own recognizance and he is due in Scarsdale Justice Court on Wednesday, May 16 to answer the charges.
